Dreamers Of The Ghetto - Heavy Love

It's rare that a band of such intense sincerity and passion comes around these days. Dreamers of the Ghetto perform and write with such conviction it stopped us dead in our tracks at times. Don't believe us? Have a look. Perhaps some won't get it. That's okay. We do.

To simply say that the music industry has changed in recent years would be the understatement of the century. One thing is true, though: those still pursuing jobs in music are generally good people, in it for the love of music, which is a good thing. Still, there's a limit to how many artists a label can work with. We asked Ben Swanson, co-founder of the venerable Secretly Canadian Records, to think of an artist that his label wasn't working with, but that he personally wanted to give a huge career opportunity to. Without hesitation Ben insisted it be Bloomington IN natives, Dreamers of the Ghetto. And were we're glad he did!
"Luke is the best vocalist we have come across since Sharon Van Etten," states Producer and Weathervane Co-founder, Brian McTear. "This band just has no question of who they are. There's no pretentious identity there whatsoever. They are all family, all best friends, and all seem like they would take a bullet for each other. That was really inspiring to us."
Dreamers of the Ghetto recorded the song, "Heavy Love" over the course of a two-day recording session at Miner Street Studios in Philadelphia, PA. McTear produced the track using boutique tube microphones provided for Shaking Through by Studio Logic Sound and TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik.
A "family band," Dreamers... functioned as a three piece with brothers Luke and Jonathan Jones and Luke's wife Lauren using just a drum machine before the recent addition of Marty Sprowles on drums.
"This is our first time as a band to actually travel and do a legitimate recording project," states Luke. "There's some intimidation that comes with the recording process but when you're working with good people you have nothing to be afraid of. It brought out the best in us."

Few bands of such intense sincerity and passion have come through these parts. Perhaps some won't get it. That's okay. We do.
