Hezekiah Jones - Borrowed Heart

Perhaps more than any other episode, Hezekiah Jones tested our logistical capacity by packing 11 band members into the studio for a tiring but immensely satisfying session. The resulting track, "Borrowed Heart" is as stunning as it is complex. Written to sync to a scene in Bride of Frankenstein, the 1935 classic, it brims with texture, character and most of all--Heart.

March 11 was a serenely energetic day. That was the day Raph Curtrufello's ever changing crew of Philadelphia folk musicians, collectively known as Hezekiah Jones, seized the chance to record a song for Shaking Through. The song, "Borrowed Heart," was written to sync with a scene from the 1935 classic film, Bride of Frankenstein. "It was an amazing experience for us," says Cutrufello. "We were honored to be asked to do it."
It was a day of inspiring and impressively smooth collaboration. "When there's this many people involved, there can be a lot of jam-ups, especially with people this creative," says producer and Series Creator, Brian McTear, "but somehow everyone seemed to know their place, and it was all came together beautifully." There no doubt, in "Borrowed Heart," the 11 piece band and everyone involved created one huge, heart-wrenching soundscape.
The band lineup has been ever changing since 2006, generally featuring Cutrufello, bassist Phil D'Agostino, singer and violinist Kiley Ryan, and banjo and steel player Brad Hinton. For this session additional guests lent their talents, including Andrew Lipke, the Sadler girls from Sisters3, Tom Bendel of Buried Beds, and Alison Wadsworth. "I kind of say that if you've made it on stage with us, and played with us, then you're a member of the band... so that number is somewhere in the 60's!" says Cutrufello.

Hezekiah Jones recently released their second full length album, "Have You Seen Our New Fort?", on March 29th with Yer Bird Records , out of Alberta, Canada, in vinyl and digital versions. Cutrufello also teamed up with The Spinning Leaves and Drexel's MAD Dragon Records to release a compilation album called "The Spinning Leaves and Hezekiah Jones performing as Hezekiah Leaves and The Spinning Joneses," released digitally on March 10th. The group is touring the midwest with Chris Bathgate and Samantha Crain on April 19th - check out the dates on the Hezekiah Jones myspace page.
