Meet April’s Featured Shaking Through Artist: Cat Martino

Spring is in full swing here in Philadelphia, and it’s about time to release our newest episode of Shaking Through. This month, we’re featuring an old friend of the series: Brooklyn’s Cat Martino. We first met Cat during the very first shoot for Shaking Through with Sharon Van Etten. She sang backing vocals on “Love More,” but now it’s time to showcase her own amazing voice with “I Promise.”

Cat enlisted the help of a few very talented friends to help her record the song: her frequent collaborator Sufjan Stevens and Philly drummer extraordinaire Chris Powell (of Man Man). Watch the sneak peak above and take some time to get to know more about this talented woman. Check out a few of her photos from the session and come back Thursday for the full episode and free download of “I Promise.”

Sign up for our email list to hear about it first!

Introducing March’s Featured Shaking Through Artist: Faces on Film

We’re getting into the third week of March, which only means one thing around here: it’s time for another new episode of Shaking Through. This time, we’re featuring Boston’s Faces on Film, the work of singer and songwriter Mike Fiore. Brought to us by curator Marissa Nadler, Fiore’s music is atmospheric and otherworldly, taking you to places where reality is not quite so linear as in our world.

The full episode and song, “Waiting for GA,” debut Tuesday at ShakingThrough.com, but you can get a glimpse of both in the preview video above. Get ready to fall in love; this song will make you wonder where Fiore’s been all your life. Introducing February’s Featured Shaking Through Artist: Strand of Oaks

We’ve got a brand new episode of Shaking Through for you this Tuesday, this time with Philadelphia’s own Strand of Oaks—a.k.a. Timothy Showalter. The Indiana native has released two albums, 2009’s Leave Ruin and 2010’s Pope Killdragon, winning early fans over with his imaginative guitar folk style. And while glowing endorsements from Rolling Stone and Pitchfork haven’t hurt, we think it’s about time the rest of the world got to know Strand of Oaks a bit better.

Enter “Spacestations,” our February release for Shaking Through Vol. 3. Recording the song between Christmas and the New Year, Tim enlisted the help of Buried Beds’ Eliza Jones and episode curator Chris Ward (of Johnny Brendas & art-rock band Pattern is Movement) to get the full sound he wanted. The result is an (appropriately) spacious track…but we won’t spoil the fun of diving into this song firsthand. Just head to ShakingThrough.com on Tuesday morning and find out for yourself.

For now, enjoy the episode preview above!
